The phony offer said that Home Depot shoppers would receive a coupon for $200 off any purchase of $220 or more if they shared a link on Facebook. This is what’s called a phishing or clickjacking scam.
Users that click on the link will be redirected to a malicious website that may steal personal information, take over Facebook accounts or install malware.
This offer is identical to a previous scam that promised a $200 coupon for any purchase of $220 or more at Lowes.
If you suspect that one of these phishing scams have taken over your Facebook account, change your password immediately. Then, log back in and open “settings,” click on “apps” and disable any suspicious apps that appear there.
