It Is
Raining Spiders in Brazil-Fiction!
Summary of the eRumor: Rumors of spiders falling to the earth from
the sky are flying all over the World Wide Web. There are concerns that these
arachnids are venomous or even worse, black widow spiders.
The Truth: It is not raining spiders but there was a video
found on YouTube, as well as a fan page on Facebook that documented
something not often witnessed in places other than the tropical regions
of South America.
What appeared to be raining spiders in Santo
Antonio da Platna, Brazil was actually a colony of communal
spiders spinning a web curtain, which was waving in the wind.
The creepy critters are not believed to be harmful to humans but they were working together as a team to
build a web big enough to catch large prey, according to a
February 9, 2013 article by Fox News.

A real example of the eRumor as it has
appeared on the Internet:
There is a video on-line, which I saw
on Facebook, that shows power lines with spiders (thousands of them)
hanging from them and in the trees...everywhere. They look like black
widows! A friend of mine thinks it was done by some kind of computer
trick but I don't think so. The people shooting the video are speaking a
foreign language...Portuguese maybe? It may be a South American
video...Brazil maybe. I just want to know where this video was made and
if it's real.
