The Cell Phone Warning of the West Virginia Attorney

General's Office

According to the Charleston Daily Mail, the West Virginia Attorney General's office released a statement on Friday, December 14, 2006, alerting citizens that they should register their cell phone numbers with the Federal "Do Not Call" registry.  The release said that the cell phone numbers were about to be released to telemarketers.

The story was based on what turned out to be a widely circulated Internet eRumor and when someone pointed that out to the Attorney General's office, the story was verified and the statement corrected.
