The governor voiced his concerns about transparency from the Obama administration and how it is handling the operation. In a July 14, 2014, article by CBS News Branstad said, “The first thing we need to do is secure the border. I do have empathy for these kids.” Branstad added, “But I also don’t want to send the signal that (you) send your kids to America illegally. That’s not the right message.”
