At the time of this writing, there is a Fort Hood Victims and Families Benefits Protection Act (HR 625 and S. 316), which was introduced on both floors of the House of Representatives and Senate. The bill includes a provision to award Purple Hearts to members of the military who were wounded or killed when suspected terrorist U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan turned his weapon on civilian employees and military members at Fort Hood in Texas. It was introduced on February 10, 2011, went to the House Committee and was referred to the Subcommittee on Military Personnel.
