Nancy Pelosi Scolds Lawmaker for Standing for Trump at State of the Union-Fiction!

Summary of eRumor:

U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi can bee seen scolding a fellow member of Congress for standing for President Donald Trump during his State of the Union address.

The Truth:

Photos appear to show Nancy Pelosi scolding a fellow member of Congress during the State of the Union Address, but video of the event disproves that idea. Pelosi was making hand gestures while speaking to the woman before the president began his address.
The meme shows three images of the exchange between Nancy Pelosi and the other lawmaker, U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez, a fellow California Democrat. A statement above the photos reads, “Oh no you will not stand and clap for the president … Nancy Pelosi scolding a Democrat who dared to stand. Photos taken from live feed of State of the Union address.”

Claims that Nancy Pelosi scolded a lawmaker for standing for President Trump at the State of the Union are based on photos that were taken out of context.

It’s not clear who originally created the meme, but it was shared on the notorious 4chan politically incorrect forum /pol/.  And, while the meme does show photos of the 2018 State of the Union, video replay demonstrates that Pelosi wasn’t scolding the congresswoman for standing for the president. Pelosi wasn’t scolding the woman — at the 8:40 mark of this video she can be seen speak animatedly with her hands before the president began speaking:

So, claims that Nancy Pelosi scolded a lawmaker for standing for Trump at the State of the Union are “fiction.”
