Maxine Waters Comment About Armed Security Detail and Gun Control-Fiction!

Maxine Waters Comment About Armed Security Detail and Gun Control-Fiction!

Summary of eRumor:

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, said there’s no reason for anyone to own guns and referred to her armed security detail in a tweet.

The Truth:

A fake Twitter account is behind false rumors that Maxine Waters tweeted about gun control and armed security in February 2018.

The tweet in question came from the handle @MaxinePWaters, which is not an official account. Waters has two accounts, @RepMaxineWaters and @MaxineWaters. She uses one for general, everyday tweets and one for tweets about her campaign. The account that the fake tweet came from —@MaxinePWaters — is an imposter.

False claims that Maxine Waters tweeted about gun control and armed security came from an imposter account.

The fake tweet circulated in the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman High that left 17 people dead. In the wake of the shooting, Waters’ official twitter account tweeted a lengthy statement. She called for Congress to “resist the pressure of the gun lobby and pass reforms.” Waters didn’t say that nobody needs a gun or comment about her armed security detail. That’s why we’re calling this one “fiction.”
