Golden State Warriors Skip White House Visit, Snub President Trump-Undetermined!

Golden State Warriors Won’t Visit White House, Snub President Trump-Undetermined!

Summary of eRumor:
The Golden State Warriors voted not to visit the White House, snubbing President Trump, after winning the 2017 NBA championship.
The Truth:
The Golden State Warriors had not issued a public decision about whether or not the team would visit the White House after winning the 2017 NBA championship, despite rumors to the contrary.
In reality, the Golden State Warriors hadn’t made a White House decision when this rumor went viral. That’s why we’re calling it “undetermined.”
Rumors that the Golden State Warriors planned to snub President Trump appeared to start with a tweet from an NBCUniversal executive named Mike Singleton:

Golden State Warriors White House
An errant tweet is behind rumors that the Golden State Warriors won’t visit the White House.

Twitter user and CNBC contributor Josh Brown retweeted the original tweet, and a story appearing at Raw Story under the headline, “Golden State Warriors refuse to visit White House after winning NBA title,” credited Brown:

The Warriors claimed their second title in three seasons Monday night with a 129-120 Game 5 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, their opponent in three straight NBA Finals appearances.

But the team, led by superstars Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, has reportedly decided by a unanimous vote not to accept congratulations from President Donald Trump.

The team, however, was quick to clarify that no official decision had been made about whether or not to visit the White House, noting in a statement it hadn’t yet received an invitation:

“Today is all about celebrating our championship. We have not received an invitation to the White House, but will make those decisions when and if necessary.”

It’s is true, however, that individual team members and coaches of Golden State have cast doubt on a trip to the White House. Team leader Steph Curry said on June 14: “Somebody asked me about it a couple months ago, a hypothetical, if a championship were to happen, what would I do? I think I answered I wouldn’t go. Still feel like that today.”
Golden State Head Coach Steve Kerr has also been critical of President Trump, saying in November, “The man who’s going to lead you has routinely used racist, misogynist, insulting words. That’s a tough one.”
Team member David West has also gone on the record with his distaste of President Trump, saying that he was “disappointed” with Trump’s election.
Still, reports that the Golden State Warriors voted to skip a visit to the White House, snubbing President Trump, were false when they went viral in June 2017.
