Summary of eRumor:
Floyd Mayweather donated a $200 million to Houston flooding relief efforts after Hurricane Harvey struck in August 2017.
The Truth:
False rumors that Floyd Mayweather donated millions (either $100 million or $200 million depending on the rumor) to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts started with an untrustworthy website.
The rumor began with a story appearing at a website called Houston Chronicles TV under the headline, “Floyd Mayweather Donates a Whopping Sum of Money to Houston After Hurricane,” in August 2017.
The post, which links to a separate report on a website called NewsPhd.com, reports that claims that Mayweather, who had recently fought Conor McGregor in one of the biggest boxing matches in years, said that the donation was “a humanitarian gesture” that he wanted to make:

The World No. 1 undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather has donated 200 million dollars to help rebuild Houston, after the most populous city in the state of Texas and the fourth-most populous city in the United States was slammed by Hurricane Harvey on Sunday.

The donation which will be utilized through his foundation was announced today after he traveled to Houston to ascertain the damage caused by the hurricane.

“It is a humanitarian gesture, an act of solidarity and support for a brotherly affected people,” the American boxing hero said.

Houston Chronicles TV isn’t a credible website, and reports about Mayweather’s massive donation shouldn’t be believed. The site’s name is deceivingly similar to the reputable Houston Chronicle, but it’s in no way associated with it.
Mayweather was worth an estimated $400 million before his prize fight with McGregor in August 2017. There wasn’t any indication, however, that Mayweather planned to make any charitable contributions.
