David Hogg Graduated in 2015, Didn’t Attend Parkland High School-Fiction!

Summary of eRumor:

David Hogg graduated from Redondo Shores High School in 2015. Hogg didn’t graduate from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and he wasn’t present for the Feb. 14 shooting that left 17 people dead.

The Truth:

David Hogg didn’t graduate in 2015 — and he was a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at the time of the Feb. 14, 2018, shooting that left 17 dead.
Rumors that David Hogg graduated from a high school in Redondo Beach in 2015 were part a conspiracy that Hogg was a paid “crisis actor” trying to use the tragedy to advance a political agenda. We investigated earlier versions and found them to be false. That one used a news report from Redondo Beach, California, that showed Hogg to argue that he wasn’t a Parkland  resident.

A newer version showed a year book photo of David Hogg and claimed that he graduated from Redondo Beach High School in 2015. The claim was advanced by what appears to be a Laguna Beach Antifa Twitter account. However, the account shares characteristics of other fake Antifa accounts that have been used to spread disinformation and propaganda, sometimes by Russian troll factories.

False claims that David Hogg graduated in 2015 came from what appears to be a fake Antifa Twitter account.

Debunking Claims that David Hogg Graduated in 2015

Our first indication that David Hogg was a 17-year-old student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at the time of the school shooting is confirmation from school officials. Shortly after the shooting, Broward County Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said, “These are absolutely students at Stoneman Douglas. They’ve been there. I can verify that.” He was responding to questions about Hogg and Emma Gonzalez at the time.
Conspiracy theorists could argue that teachers and administrators were simply lying, but the evidence goes much deeper. David Hogg was a member of the school’s Astronomy Club, appearing in the school newspaper in December 2017. He appeared on the school television station, Broward Teen News (BTN). Hogg also served as president of the Drone Club and was a member of the cross-country team, appearing in a photo in the Sun-Sentinel as he crossed the finish line in the Spanish River Cross Country Invitational held in 2015. All of this points to Hogg being an active member of the Parkland community.
So, there’s an abundance of evidence that David Hogg was a student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School at the time of the tragic mass shooting on Feb. 14, 2018. And there’s no credible evidence that Hogg graduated in 2015 and  went to high school in California. For those reasons, we’re calling this rumor “fiction.”
