Rich Buhler is the founder of TruthorFiction and was a broadcaster, speaker, author, broadcast journalist, and producer who researched and wrote about rumors and urban legends for more than 30 years. Because of both his knowledge about what he terms “eRumors” and his broadcast background, Rich was a popular guest on radio and television and has appeared on national and international outlets including on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, Fox News, BBC, CBC, as well as local television and radio stations from Maryland to California. He has also either written, or been featured in, numerous newspaper and magazine articles. Rich operated TruthOrFiction.com until his death from pancreatic cancer in May of 2012, his family wrote and operated truthorfiction.com on his behalf until late 2018 and are still owners of the site.

This eRumor says that there is a myth in Africa, especially South Africa, that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS. It talks about an epidemic of infected males violating virgins, including children because of the belief that the younger the virgin, the more potent the cure. It references the rape of a 9-month-old by 6 men. It also says that another 9-month-old was raped and is fighting for her life. The email asks you to participate in an email petition to retain the Child Protection Unit in South Africa.

This is a forwarded email with a link to a video on YouTube about a quick test for AA batteries. The video demonstrates that if a fully charged battery is dropped about 1 inch from a surface it will land with a thud and not fall over. If a AA battery that is not fully charged or dead is dropped in the same manner it will bounce and land on its side.

A.F.A. Calls for a Boycott of Harvey Milk Postage Stamps-Truth!

The American Family Association (A.F.A) has activated a boycott campaign against U.S. Postal Service stamps commemorating Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician to be elected to public office in California. Emailed alerts from the American Family Association (A.F.A.) were sent out instructing readers not to accept Harvey Milk postage stamps from local post offices. A.F.A. The alerts also advise reader not to accept mail that have been postmarked with the Harvey Milk stamps and write ‘Return to Sender” on the envelope.
